Today marks 10 years since the loss of 298 lives from the downing of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17.

As we remember those lost, we hold closest to our hearts the victims’ families and loved ones.

This anniversary and today’s ceremonies will be difficult with the grief and pain caused still felt by many.

With our international partners, Australia has remained determined in the pursuit of truth and justice over the downing of Flight MH17, for which we hold Russia responsible.

The successful prosecution of those guilty of the abhorrent crime was a crucial step towards justice but brings little peace for the families of the 298 victims.

In June this year Russia made the unacceptable decision to withdraw from the International Civil Aviation Organization Council dispute concerning the downing of Flight MH17.

The case will continue however efforts must be made to ensure Russia, which controlled the forces and the individuals responsible, face genuine punishment.

The Coalition continues to provide full bipartisan support to the Australian Government to pursue justice and use every mechanism available, including sanctions and other measures, to further increase pressure.

In recognition of the 10th anniversary, let us remember the 298 souls who lost their lives in 2014, including 38 innocent Australians.

Let our thoughts be with them and their families, as we stand resolutely with them in pursuit of justice.
